Expressing what you think
Once you can talk about your life, your past, and your future, the next step is to express your own ideas.
Giving an opinion does not mean making a long argument. Beginners can start with a few simple phrases such as creo que, pienso que, and para mí.
These expressions help you say what you think, explain why, agree or disagree politely, and participate more naturally in a conversation.
A Simple Structure for Giving Your Opinion
You can organize a basic opinion in four steps:
- Introduce your opinion.
- Say what you think.
- Give a reason.
- Add an example or final comment.
For example:
Creo que aprender otro idioma es muy importante porque ayuda a conocer otras culturas. También puede crear nuevas oportunidades. Para mí, estudiar una lengua es una inversión muy útil.
I think learning another language is very important because it helps you discover other cultures. It can also create new opportunities. For me, studying a language is a very useful investment.
One clear opinion and one simple reason are already enough.

Giving an Opinion About City Life
En mi opinión, vivir en una ciudad grande es interesante porque siempre hay cosas que hacer. Hay muchos restaurantes, tiendas y actividades culturales. Sin embargo, también puede ser estresante por el ruido y el tráfico. Para mí, una ciudad mediana es una mejor opción.
In my opinion, living in a big city is interesting because there are always things to do. There are many restaurants, shops, and cultural activities. However, it can also be stressful because of the noise and traffic. For me, a medium-sized city is a better option.
Talking About Online Learning
Creo que estudiar en línea puede ser muy útil porque es flexible y permite estudiar desde cualquier lugar. Un problema es que algunas personas pierden la motivación. En general, pienso que funciona bien cuando el estudiante tiene una buena rutina.

Agreeing and Disagreeing
Mi amigo piensa que todos deberían trabajar desde casa. Estoy de acuerdo en que tiene muchas ventajas, pero no creo que sea ideal para todas las personas. Para mí, depende del tipo de trabajo y de la personalidad de cada persona.
My friend thinks everyone should work from home. I agree that it has many advantages, but I do not think it is ideal for everyone. For me, it depends on the type of work and each person’s personality.
A Small Language Note
In Spanish, opinions often sound more natural when they are softened with phrases such as:
Creo que… → I think that…
Me parece que… → It seems to me that…
Puede ser, pero… → Maybe, but…
These expressions can make disagreement sound less abrupt.
A useful beginner pattern is:
Entiendo tu opinión, pero creo que…
I understand your opinion, but I think that…
After expressions such as creo que and pienso que, you can normally continue with a simple statement:
Creo que es una buena idea.
I think it is a good idea.
Pienso que esta ciudad es muy tranquila.
I think this city is very quiet.
You may later encounter structures such as no creo que sea, which use the subjunctive. For now, focus on simple affirmative structures:

These are enough for many everyday conversations.
Para Terminar
When you give your opinion, begin with one clear idea.

- why you think it
- an example
