Talking about where you live means more than simply naming a city or country. You can also describe your home, your neighbourhood, what is nearby, and what you like about the area.
You do not need to describe everything. A few clear details are enough to help another person imagine an important part of your everyday life.
A Simple Structure for Talking About Where You Live
You can organize your answer in five simple steps:
Say where you live.
Say what kind of place it is.
Describe your home or neighbourhood.
Mention what is nearby.
Say what you like or do not like about living there.
For example:
Vivo en Puerto Varas, en el sur de Chile. Es una ciudad pequeña y tranquila, rodeada de naturaleza. Vivo en un departamento cerca del centro. Hay tiendas, cafeterías y un lago muy bonito cerca de mi casa. Me gusta vivir aquí porque es un lugar tranquilo y hay paisajes hermosos.
I live in Puerto Varas, in the south of Chile. It is a small and peaceful city surrounded by nature. I live in an apartment near the city centre. There are shops, cafés, and a very beautiful lake near my home. I like living here because it is a quiet place with beautiful scenery.
You do not need to use every step every time. Even three or four sentences can create a complete and natural description.

Talking About the Surroundings
Cerca de mi casa hay… → Near my house, there is / there are…
Está cerca de… → It is near…

Hay muchas tiendas. → There are many shops.
Hay un parque cerca. → There is a park nearby.

Cerca de mi casa hay un supermercado, una farmacia y varias cafeterías. Near my house, there is a supermarket, a pharmacy, and several cafés.
Saying What You Like

Lo que más me gusta es… → What I like most is…
Es un lugar cómodo. → It is a convenient place.

Living Near Nature
Vivo en una casa en las afueras de una ciudad del sur de Chile. La zona es muy verde y hay muchos árboles. No hay muchas tiendas cerca, así que normalmente tengo que ir al centro en coche. Me gusta vivir aquí porque hay poco ruido y puedo estar cerca de la naturaleza.

A Small Cultural Note
In many Spanish-speaking places, people often explain locations by using familiar reference points instead of giving only a formal address.
You may hear expressions such as:
cerca de la plaza
al lado del supermercado
frente a la iglesia
detrás de la estación
a dos cuadras del centro
a cinco minutos del parque
The word cuadra is especially common in many Latin American countries. It refers to a city block.
For example:
Vivo a tres cuadras de la plaza principal.
This means that the speaker lives three blocks away from the main square.
