This week’s journey through the tropics also offered a chance to look back.
Throughout June, we explored the natural world from different perspectives. We reflected on how World Environment Day has influenced the English we use, crossed the oceans that carried words and ideas across cultures, followed the invisible force of the wind, discovered the language shaped by dry lands, and now arrived in the tropics.
Although each article focused on a different landscape or environmental theme, they all shared the same idea: language is deeply connected to the world that surrounds us. The places we inhabit, the forces we experience, and the environments we seek to understand have all left their mark on the words we speak today.
