Book sales increased in Australia and New Zealand during the week associated with Love Your Bookshop Day 2026, according to fresh trade figures reported on 26 October. The figures cover the wider trading week around the annual celebration of independent booksellers.
NielsenIQ BookScan data for Australia showed a 12.2 percent increase in sales value and a 7.2 percent increase in the number of books sold compared with the equivalent week in 2025. Readers spent about A$26.9 million on print books and bought more than 1.33 million copies.
The Australian Booksellers Association said the figures covered a broad range of titles. More than 121,000 different ISBNs were recorded as purchased, indicating that sales were spread beyond the most prominent bestselling books.
Booksellers Aotearoa New Zealand reported increases of 5.6 percent in sales value and 6.5 percent in units over the comparable period. Its figures pointed to almost eight thousand additional books sold and greater consumer spending across participating retailers.
Love Your Bookshop Day was held on 10 October, with bookshops organising events and inviting readers to discover new titles. The higher weekly sales in both markets came alongside those celebrations, highlighting the scale of the book trade's annual campaign.
