Summit Books Acquires Ashley Hay’s The Running Dream
Summit Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, has acquired The Running Dream, a new novel by Australian writer Ashley Hay. The agreement was arranged through literary agent Jenny Hewson at Lutyens & Rubinstein and announced in the Australian book trade on 22 October.
The novel centres on a dream that recurs in the lives of different people. As it passes from one sleeper to another, each person encounters its imagery in different circumstances. The shifting perspectives create a story about connections that are not immediately visible between separate lives and moments in time.
Hay is known for fiction that draws on memory, place and the inner lives of its characters. The Running Dream brings those interests into a premise in which a repeated nocturnal experience becomes the thread joining several narratives. Its imaginative structure distinguishes the proposed novel from a straightforward single-character story.
The publisher describes the dream as moving across different sleepers, carrying its own ideas and possibilities into their lives. That recurring image supplies the connection among stories set apart in time and place. Summit’s acquisition places the work on its forthcoming fiction list following the deal arranged by Hewson.
