Penguin Random House Announces 2027 Grants for Small US Libraries
Penguin Random House and United for Libraries have announced another round of funding for small and rural libraries across the United States. The 2027 programme will distribute US$25,000 through cash grants of US$500 and US$1,000, alongside twenty book-donation awards valued at US$500 apiece.
The cash grants are intended to help Friends of the Library groups carry out priority projects for the libraries they support. The book awards will allow selected institutions to purchase titles from Penguin Random House. Successful applicants will also receive access to training and professional resources covering subjects such as fundraising and organisational development.
Applications are scheduled to open on 8 December 2026 and close on 25 January 2027. Applicants are expected to receive decisions by the end of March. Eligibility is restricted to specified smaller and rural US libraries and their support groups, with detailed geographic and service-area criteria set out by the organisers.
The partnership has operated since 2025, so this is a further annual round rather than the start of an entirely new grant scheme. Along with direct financial support, the programme seeks to strengthen the local groups that raise funds and organise activities for libraries with limited resources.
