2025 Australasian Shadows Awards Recognise Excellence in Horror and Dark Fiction
The Australasian Horror Writers Association announced the winners of the 2025 Australasian Shadows Awards on 3 October 2026, recognising achievements in horror and dark fiction published during the preceding year. Seven awards were presented across eight categories, with no winner selected for Graphic Novels/Comics.
A. Rushby received the Novel award for Slashed Beauties, while A. G. Slatter won the Paul Haines Award for Long Fiction for The Cold House. Geneve Flynn was recognised in Short Fiction for If I am to Earn my Tether, adding another distinction to her work in contemporary horror.
The Poetry award went to Katya de Becerra for Anatomy of a Haunting. Jeff Clulow won Collected Work for The Leper’s Garden, while Lee Murray and Dave Jeffery received the Edited Work award for This Way Lies Madness, an anthology exploring psychological horror and its relationship with experiences of fear, trauma and mental distress.
The Rocky Wood Award for Non-Fiction and Criticism was presented to Louise Zedda-Sampson for The Horror of Australia’s Literary Censorship, recognising a critical work examining the treatment of horror and related literature.
The Australasian Shadows Awards have developed from an earlier single-award format into a broader programme recognising different forms of dark writing. This year's winners represent fiction, poetry, edited collections and literary criticism, demonstrating the range of work recognised within contemporary Australasian horror literature.
