BISG Renames Industry Champion Award for Brian F. O’Leary
The Book Industry Study Group has renamed its Industry Champion Award the Brian F. O’Leary Industry Champion Award, recognising its former executive director’s contributions to the organisation and the wider publishing industry.
The announcement was made on September 16 at BISG’s fiftieth-anniversary forum and celebration at The New York Historical. O’Leary, who retired on June 30 after ten years leading the association, received a commemorative certificate marking the change.
BISG credited his leadership with strengthening its role as a forum where publishers, manufacturers, distributors, retailers and technology specialists could work on shared problems. His initiatives included Book Publishing Next, which focuses on improving the publishing supply chain through industry cooperation.
The award will retain its existing purpose: recognising individuals whose work advances the book industry as a whole. Kris Kliemann, the longtime chair of BISG’s Rights Committee, was named the 2026 recipient during the same anniversary programme.
The renaming honours O’Leary’s organisational leadership. It also places a lasting name on an award associated with the collaborative work of BISG’s committees, working groups and volunteers.
