Rommi Launches Studio for Romance Books and Original Stories
Producers Jamie Gordon and Maggie Malina have launched Rommi, a production studio focused on vertical live-action films for romance audiences. The company is working with Morgann Book and Thomas Johnston of Bookish Media to develop both adaptations of published books and original stories by established authors.
Gordon will serve as chief executive, while Malina leads content development. Publishers Weekly reports that the studio plans hour-long productions, described as micromovies, designed for viewing on social platforms in a vertical format.
Its first planned release is Drive Me Mad, a romantic comedy based on an original idea by Ali Rosen, author of Unlikely Story. The film is scheduled to debut in October. Additional original projects are in development with Emma Grey and Debbie Rigaud.
Rommi is also adapting The Mixtape by Brittainy Cherry and This Spells Love by Kate Robb. The slate therefore extends beyond existing books to include stories commissioned specifically for the screen.
A spokesperson told Publishers Weekly that Rommi would not generate its films with AI. The launch adds a new production business to the developing market for book adaptations made for vertical viewing.
